When you’re navigating surgical menopause, it helps to have trusted, evidence-based resources to guide conversations with your GP, consultant, or specialist menopause clinic. The following national and international guidelines outline best practice in care and treatment — and can be useful to print or share at appointments.

British Menopause Society (BMS): Surgical Menopause Toolkit

Practical, clinician-facing guidance on counselling, HRT choices and aftercare following BSO or ovarian failure.

Good to know:
The BMS states that all women under 45 who experience surgical menopause should be offered HRT until at least age 51 (the average age of natural menopause), unless there are specific contraindications.

NICE Guideline NG23: Menopause — identification and management

National guidance for diagnosis and management, including premature and early menopause. Updated November 2024.

Good to know: NICE frames HRT as the first-line treatment for menopausal symptoms and clarifies that evidence statements relate to licensed doses (useful context if you’re discussing off-label needs)
